Nga Mahi Te Taiao is an independent natural resource management and sustainable development organisation providing research, education, planning and project management services to individuals and communities, whanau, hapu and iwi, schools, industry, and local and central government.
He Tai Ora, the Living Sea
He Tai Ora, the Living Sea, is a Learning Experience Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) program that explores the coastal environment as a key learning context. The Experiencing Marine Reserves Project (EMR) comprises an important part of the program.
He Awa Ora, Healthy Rivers
He Awa Ora Healthy Rivers is a holistic, science based project that aims to improve the understanding, appreciation and management of our freshwater environments. He awa ora is also delivered as an LEOTC program.
Key principles guiding our work are:
- Community participation
- The restoration of natural resource abundance
- Education in, about and for the environment
- Recognition that research and development exist within a social and cultural landscape
